Avengers...... Assembled!!!!

The Avengers!!!!!
Marvel is definitely off to a good start. With AvX trudging along quite nicely with all the promotional variants and tie-ins, Marvel made another big move with the showing of The Avengers movie. I was fortunate enough to have gotten free passes to the advanced screening of The Avengers (big thanks to Jeremy, Justine and the gang from Galaxy!!!) and me and my wife was taken for a great action-packed ride. So for anybody reading this and will still be watching the movie on Friday 04 May, be warned: SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

The Dark Knight Returns

So with the effects from the events of Flashpoint reverberating throughout the DC Universe, almost all DC titles have been revamped. Since September 2011, 52 DC titles have been relaunched and as expected, The Dark Knight has been given uber status among the rest. Having 3 title under his "wing", and numerous others connected to him, DC has relaunched Batman through Batman (New 52), Batman: The Dark Knight (New 52) and Detective Comics (New 52).

I finally caught up with my reading and I must say the Batman series is looking very very good. At the start of the series, we are being re-introduced to the Dark Knight and his realm, Gotham City. And to start off, we are being introduced to a story that goes deeper to the roots of the Batman and Gotham City. Scott Snyder creates a very good flow of events that lead us to the Court of Owls, an organization that has been controlling Gotham City and its denizens for centuries. As Batman investigates deeper, he realizes that he is uncovering truths that have been kept secret right under his nose. The Owls are real, and they are ready to make their move. This will lead into the first cross-over from DC for 2012: "The Night of The Owls", and it looks killer!!!

AvX!!!!!!!

(L-R): AvX #1 Team X-Men Variant, AvX #1 Limited 1:25 Variant cover by John Romita Jr., AvX #0 Limited 1:25 Variant cover by Jimmy Cheung (at the back), AvX #1 Limited 1:100 Variant cover by Ryan Stegman, AvX #1 Team Avengers Variant, (below) AvX #0 Limited 1:50 Phoenix Variant cover by Staphanie Hans and AvX #1 Limited Retailer Incentive Variant cover.

Avengers Assemble!!! It has been a long time since I have read that line. And with that Marvel kicks off probably the biggest cross-over for 2012: Avengers vs. X-men. There has been a lot of  big comic events that I have missed (Fear Itself, Dark Reign,Brightest Day, Blackest Night come to mind) and so AvX is a must for me. This big event is going to be written by the team of Brian Micheal Bendis, Jason Aaron, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction with art by John Romita Jr. (wow!!! havent seen a JRJ for a while), Olivier Coipel and Adam Kubert.

The Geek that I am......

Mandalorian Merc
Its Sunday, the weather is nice (relatively nice at -10 degrees) and nothing to do. Did most of the laundry last night and finished reading a book. So I decided to just go out and see what I can do. Just when I was about to close the door I remembered that today was the last day of the Winnipeg  Comics and Toy Convention (C4). So I got my camera and headed off to a small piece of geek heaven called Comic-Con.

This is actually my first time going to a comic convention and I'm not too sure what to expect. Sure, I've seen the photos and clips in youtube and the TV; but this is Winnipeg..... most of the stuff I know about comic cons are from articles for events that happened in New York, Toronto, California, and other BIGGER places. So I was expecting the Winnipeg con to be a little different. Well, it was. But it wasn't that bad. For 7 bucks, I was treated to something pretty cool.
